EVACUATION PLAN
Having more than one evacuation plan set in place before the season starts is a wise idea. Consider options that are directly inland, inland and south, inland and north, etc. as storms can change direction quickly and last-minute plans are difficult when you are trying to leave. If you have pets, do your research ahead of time on which hotels will take pets during an evacuation if that is your only option for shelter.
PET'S SUPPLIES
Your pet's supplies are also critical to plan ahead for. Amongst other things, be sure you have enough food and drinking water for them for at least a week, keep any medicines stocked with a minimum of a week's worth (including preventatives), have a carrier/kennel, leash, water bowl, and poop bags/litter on hand. Also, make sure your pet is wearing an ID tag, rabies tag, and keep your pet's microchip information in the important documents that travel with you. A clear, recent photo of your pet is one more important item to keep on you/on your phone/emailed to yourself in the event your pet becomes lost.
INSURANCE
It's a very good idea to revisit your insurance coverage BEFORE a storm or other disaster strikes so you are well aware of the terms. Flood insurance is separate from regular home insurance, as is wind & hail. Policy documents are an important part of your paperwork that should go with you in the event of an evacuation.
