Hurricane
Florence

Category 1 Hurricane Florence made landfall near Wrightsville Beach, NC (Wilmington area) on the morning of September 14 and proceeded to slow to a crawl over southeastern North Carolina dumping record rain amounts.  Winds and record-breaking flooding throughout the area damaged thousands of homes, roads, and businesses causing $24 billion in damages.  Area reps came together donating thousands of dollars in medical supplies to Paws & Claws A.I.D and we, in turn, opened free clinics to hardest hit areas in New Hanover and Pender Counties.  During these clinics, pets were tested for heartworm, provided with their monthly preventatives, given a health exam by one of our doctors, treated for any skin issues, diarrhea, vomiting, etc.  We were also able to provide our county animal control shelters as well as a few rescue groups with supplies and food that were donated. Hundreds of pets were displaced and cared for during the first several weeks after the storm.

Hurricane Maria

Category 5 Hurricane Maria, completely devastating the island of Puerto Rico, left thousands still on the island homeless and without food, water, or power.  While we did not have access to direct transportation to PR, Buen Provecho restaurant in Marietta, GA did.  We once again opened our doors at Paws & Claws Animal Hospital to collect goods and supplies that were driven to Georgia to join the ever-growing piles for the people and pets of Puerto Rico

Hurricane Harvey

Category 4 Hurricane Harvey brought unrelenting rains to S.E. Texas killing 88 people and causing billions of dollars in damages mostly from flooding.  Paws & Claws Animal Hospital opened their doors as a drop-off location for goods, but the community response in just 3 days was so overwhelming that it lead to a team of 12 individuals driving 3 26' UHauls to the people and pets of Vidor, TX to deliver the 35,000+ pounds of pet food amid thousands of other donations of food, water, hygiene supplies, etc.

Hurricane Matthew

Category 1 Hurricane Matthew added 20 inches of to an already saturated S.E. North Carolina causing extreme flooding.  Many of our neighbors, clients, and patients were left homeless after rivers and creeks swelled well past their banks.  This was the first time Paws & Claws Animal Hospital opened their doors to be a drop-off location for goods and supplies.  The donations were then added to the full community collection and transported by the Leland Fire/Rescue to Cumberland County.
